Before I delve into this article, I’d like to point out that this blog post was created more for myself — an insight to my visions, dreams, and aspirations — than my usual inspirational, wisdom-bearing pieces.
However, you’re more than welcome to read along 🙂
Anyway, I was watching “It’s Not You, It’s Men,” hosted by Rev Run and Tyrese Gibson. Mr. Gibson, best known for his roles in the “Fast & Furious” franchise (lesser known for his breakout role in “Baby Boy” with Taraji P. Henson), talked about how, on Instagram, he would post images that visualized where he wanted to be in the future.
If you’re too lazy to read Tyrese’s caption, it basically says how he’s been envisioning his Grammy win for so long, he can almost taste that his “time” his approaching — he even practices his award speeches in the bathroom mirror. “It’s not a manta, it’s not something I’m trying to speak into existence — no people, it’s SO REAL TO ME YOU HAVE NO IDEA”
So then I thought — why don’t I start doing the same thing? One thing I’ve been doing lately is learning to appreciate where I am in life, despite the fact that I haven’t attained the successes I yearn to achieve. Now that I am in a space where I feel optimistic and much less downtrodden, I want to try something new: making things “SO REAL TO ME YOU HAVE NO IDEA.”
I have compiled a list that WILL happen within the next year or two because, as per the law of attraction, like attracts like.
1.I WILL PAY OFF MY STUDENT LOAN BY 2017
I’ve paid down about 50% of my student loans so far. I’ve had some setbacks due to unemployment in the past, but that means nothing. That was the past. By 2017, I will be absolutely debt free and I no longer will have do deal with the burden of owing thousands of dollars. I will pay off my loans within the next year, no ifs, ands or buts.
2.I WILL HAVE A FINANCIALLY SECURE, FULFILLING JOB BY THIS SPRING
I am a freelance employee as we speak. And I hate freelance contracts for a number of reasons — there are no dental or health plans, and worst of all, there is no set salary. As a writer, I am paid on a per-unit basis. That being said, earnings each month vary depending on how many articles I’m asked to write. This makes it extremely difficult to budget and keeps me stuck at my parents house. I’ve been aggressively looking for a new, fulfilling job that offers full-time benefits and I WILL find one by this Spring. Got it?
3.I WILL BE CONFIDENT, PREPARED & ASSERTIVE FOR ALL JOB INTERVIEWS
I am a very shy girl. And although my writing skills are incredible, they can be overshadowed by how introverted I am during interviews. But, from now on, I will carry a confident, prepared, assertive presence for all future job interviews here on out.
4.A CURE FOR KELOIDS WILL BE DISCOVERED BY 2017
Yes, I do have a frustrating skin condition known as “keloids,” but I am fed up with letting it control my life. Keloids will not stop me from achieving my dreams and, most importantly, I WILL find a way to get rid of them. Not only for myself, but for everyone else who is suffering as well.
5. I WILL TRAVEL TO THE SUNNY, BEAUTIFUL CARIBBEAN BY 2017
I’m a New Yorker and, quite frankly, I am f***ing sick-and-tired of the dreary winter. I’ve been living here for 24 years — since I was born — and I still haven’t gotten used to the brutal, frosty chill. And I don’t need to! Know why? I will have the luxury of traveling to the beautiful, sunny islands of the Caribbean by 2017. Mai Tais and palm trees, here I come!
6. I WILL MOVE INTO A BEAUTIFUL APARTMENT IN NEW YORK CITY’s GREENWICH VILLAGE BY 2018
For as long as I could remember, Greenwich Village (also known as “The Village”) has been my “dream neighborhood.” It’s filled with so much fresh, young, Millennial energy, and an incredible open-minded, welcoming spirit that I just want to wrap myself around every time I step outside my doorstep. The beloved, annual Halloween Parade is held there every year and the culture there, which is hipster-esque, totally fits my vibe. I will have an apartment there by 2018 — no roommate needed.
6. I WILL FIND THE LOVE OF MY LIFE BY
Y’know, to help pay the rent and stuff — haha, just kidding. *Swoon* For a long time, I’ve been a little wary of relationships. I’ve found that, in the past, they made me unhappy instead of happy. My focus on my skin flaws was a big reason for that. And I want to erase those thoughts from my mind. Love is rare, but it does exist — I am finally deciding to welcome it into my life.
7. My Friends Will Find Success, Too
If my friends are happy, their inspirited energies inspire me to feel content as well. This law of attraction exercise isn’t only for my own benefit, but theirs as well. I want them to do well — spectacularly well.
